Suspect Seasonal Allergies? Visit an ENT

I never had allergies as a child, but when I was in my mid 20s, I thought I developed seasonal allergies. I felt like I had a severely stuffed up nose one fall that OTC allergies medications only helped a little. However, when the stuffed up nose persisted all winter, I realized I may have a bigger problem and visited an ENT. It turned out that I had been getting repeated sinus infections and never knew it! Thankfully, a round of antibiotics cleared it up and I wish I had sought treatment long ago. I have since become fascinated by disorders affecting the Ears, Nose, and Throat, so I decided to start a blog all about what I have learned about them. I plan to post many tips about sinus health. However, remember never to self-diagnose and visit an ENT when you develop new sinus problems!

by Jeremiah Shelton

If you've been wondering whether or not you need to visit an ENT specialist there are a few signs that you should be aware of. These signs will tell you for sure whether you need a specialist or not. Seeing a specialist usually means that things have gotten a little more complicated and you need to move beyond your family doctor.

Here's a closer look at some of the main reasons why people see an ENT doctor.

Ear Infections

If you have an ear infection once in a while it can be brushed off as something that happens to everyone occasionally. Ear infections usually happen because you have a cold or flu. It is also a response to an allergy.

When you have an ear infection it can cause headaches and even fever. However, for most people, it often passes. If you notice that you are constantly getting an ear infection there may be something else going on and you need to have a specialist check it out for you.

Ringing Noises In the Ear

Many people will experience ringing in their ears. This is not uncommon and it often happens after exposure to loud noises. This is called tinnitus. If you have tinnitus occasionally and it goes away, then you need to take steps to protect your hearing especially if you work in a noisy environment.

It may also be as simple as turning down the volume on your earphones. However, some people have ringing in their ears all the time. This constant ringing in the ears can make life miserable. When this starts to happen it is time to see an ENT specialist

Chronic Sinusitis

An occasional stuffy nose is one thing but when it goes on for weeks and months at a time there is something wrong. It is especially worrisome if the sinusitis does not respond to medication. It may be because something is happening internally in your nasal passages. See an ENT specialist as soon as possible as they will give you personalized treatment to take care of the problem.

An ENT specialist can help you to get rid of any chronic symptoms you may be having that are affecting your life. The sooner you go into treatment once you notice the symptoms that have been discussed here, the quicker you will receive a solution to these issues and be able to enjoy a healthier life.
